DuRT 3.0.0 Migration Guide: Database Overhaul & Clean Upgrade
WARNING
Important Notice for Upgrading Users:
DuRT 3.0.0 introduces a major architectural overhaul to its persistent storage layer (powered by GRDB SQLite) and workflow execution engine. The database schema in v3.0.0 is incompatible with v2.x and earlier versions.
If you have installed or run a previous version of DuRT, DO NOT install over your existing installation without cleaning up first. Direct overwrites can lead to launch crashes, unreadable session histories, or unexpected UI errors. Please follow the steps below to safeguard your data and perform a clean installation.
1. Migration Assessment: Do You Need to Migrate Data?
DuRT’s Workspace structure determines where your historical audio, subtitles, and exported transcripts are stored:
| Workspace Mode | Storage Characteristics | Manual Migration Required? | Recommendation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Custom Workspace | External user-selected folder (e.g., Documents, external drive) | No ✅ | Your files reside safely in your own folder. Uninstalling or upgrading the app will not affect them. Simply rebind the directory in v3.0.0 settings. |
| Default Workspace | System sandbox folder (~/Library/...) | Yes ⚠️ | Files in the sandbox may be wiped when removing the legacy application or clearing cache. You must export or copy out important documents, subtitles, and audio before upgrading! |
2. Backing Up the Default Workspace
If you have been using the Default Workspace, complete these steps before removing the legacy version:
- Launch your current DuRT version.
- Export Key Subtitles & Documents:
- In session history or the editor, export important transcripts to
.srt,.vtt,.json, or.txtinto your Mac’s Downloads or Documents folder.
- In session history or the editor, export important transcripts to

- Enter the sandbox path:bash
~/Library/Containers/com.dudufuture.durt/Data/Library/workspace - Copy the entire
workspacefolder to your Desktop or an external drive as a backup.
