Data, Storage & Cache Maintenance
DuRT 3.0 is built on a high-performance local-first SQLite database architecture, providing instantaneous query speeds, complete data sovereignty, and automatic self-healing.
1. Local Storage Location
All your workspace configurations, transcription records, subtitle timelines, and custom prompt presets are stored locally on your Mac:

None of your transcripts, audio recordings, or API keys are ever uploaded to DuRT servers. Everything stays strictly inside your macOS local sandbox.
2. Automatic Schema Initialization & Self-Healing
- Zero Manual Migration: Upon launching v3.0.0, DuRT automatically inspects the database schema. Missing tables, foreign keys, and indexes are created on-the-fly.
- Integrity Verification: If SQLite encounters unexpected system shutdowns, DuRT’s self-healing layer automatically recovers uncommitted transactions via the WAL journal.
3. Cache Storage & One-Click Cleanup
Speech recognition and video transcoding frequently generate temporary high-resolution PCM/WAV audio buffers. Over time, these can accumulate disk space.
In Settings ➔ Data & Storage:
- Disk Usage Breakdown: Inspect the exact storage footprint of database records vs. audio caches.
- Clean Cache Without Data Loss: Click Clear Temporary Audio Cache to safely purge temporary audio files. All your finalized subtitles, transcripts, and exported documents remain 100% intact.
4. Backup & Migration to a New Mac
To transfer your DuRT workspaces and history to a new Mac:
- Quit DuRT completely.
- Copy the
~/Library/Application Support/com.codeandxv.DuRT/DuRT.sqlitefile to an external drive. - Paste it into the same location on your new Mac and launch DuRT. Your entire history and settings will be restored instantly.
