1. Core Principle: Local-First Architecture (Zero Data Collection)
DuRT is engineered with a strict Local-First design:
- Audio Stays on Your Device: When using real-time internal loopback capture, microphone recording, or file transcription, audio streams are processed exclusively in your Mac's local memory and processor.
- Zero Relay Servers: We do not maintain any centralized servers to intercept, relay, analyze, or store your audio, video, or transcribed text.
- Fully Offline Processing: With on-device engines like Apple Speech Recognition, the entire speech-to-text pipeline runs natively on your Apple Silicon / Intel Mac without any active internet connection.
2. macOS System Permissions & Purpose
To provide real-time subtitles, workflow transcription, and AI enhancements, DuRT requests the following system permissions on macOS:

3. Bring Your Own Key (BYOK) & Third-Party AI Data Flow
DuRT adopts a BYOK (Bring Your Own Key) architecture, allowing you to connect directly to major LLMs and external ASR gateways:
- Direct End-to-End Requests: When you configure and use third-party AI services (such as OpenAI, Anthropic Claude, DeepSeek, Alibaba Cloud, Tencent Cloud, or self-hosted OneASR gateways), all API requests are dispatched directly from your Mac to the respective provider's official endpoint without routing through any intermediate servers.
- Secure Local Storage: Your API keys, access tokens, and endpoint URLs are stored securely within your Mac's App Sandbox. They are never synced to our cloud or shared with third parties.
- Third-Party Policies: Data transmitted to third-party AI providers (such as text segments for translation or proofreading) is governed by their respective privacy policies. We encourage you to review their terms.
4. Local Data Storage & User Control
- Sandboxed SQLite Database: Your task history, segmented subtitles, workspace presets, prompt templates, and custom settings reside entirely inside your local macOS sandbox directory.
- Export & Instant Purge: You can export subtitles (SRT, VTT, TXT, or audio) at any time, delete individual tasks, or reset the entire database with a single click.
- Complete Erasure on Uninstall: Uninstalling DuRT from your Mac permanently purges all sandboxed databases and cached configurations.
5. Analytics & Diagnostics
- No Personally Identifiable Information (PII): We do not track, collect, or sell your personal identity, device serial numbers, or location data.
- App Store Crash Diagnostics: If you opt into sharing diagnostics with developers in macOS System Settings, Apple may provide anonymous crash reports and stack traces solely to help us fix bugs and improve application stability.
6. Children's Privacy & Policy Updates
- Children's Privacy: DuRT is not directed to children under 13 (or the applicable age of digital consent in your jurisdiction), and we do not knowingly collect information from minors.
- Policy Changes: We may update this Privacy Policy periodically to reflect app enhancements or legal changes. Updates will be published on our website and in release notes.
