Workspaces
A Workspace in DuRT is a named container that stores its own independent transcription and session history. Think of it as a project folder: everything you record, transcribe, and process within a workspace stays there, separate from all your other workspaces.
What Is a Workspace?
When you run a recording session in DuRT, the results — transcriptions, AI-processed text, timestamps — are saved as task history. Workspaces let you organize this history by purpose, so you are never hunting through a single long list to find yesterday's meeting notes.
Each workspace maintains:
- Its own task history (all past sessions)
- Its own session context (carry-over text between sessions, if enabled)
- Independent storage — switching workspaces never mixes up records
NOTE
Workspace settings (which ASR engine or LLM service to use) are global and shared across all workspaces. Only the recorded history is isolated per workspace.
The Default Workspace
DuRT creates a Default workspace automatically when you first launch the app. If you never need to separate your history, you can use this workspace forever without any additional setup.
Creating a New Workspace
- Open Settings in DuRT.
- Navigate to the Workspace tab.
- Click the + Add button.
- Enter a name for your workspace (e.g., "Work Meetings", "Language Practice", "Personal").
- Press Confirm to create it.
The new workspace is immediately available and starts with an empty history.
TIP
Use short, descriptive names so you can tell workspaces apart at a glance when switching between them.
Switching Workspaces
To switch to a different workspace:
- Open the workspace selector — usually accessible from the main DuRT window or the Settings → Workspace tab.
- Click the workspace you want to activate.
- DuRT immediately loads that workspace's history in the session panel.
NOTE
Switching workspaces does not interrupt an active recording session. Finish or stop your current session before switching if you want the session saved to the correct workspace.
Task History Per Workspace
Every time you complete a recording session, DuRT saves a task entry in the currently active workspace. Each entry typically contains:
- The transcript text produced by the ASR engine
- Any AI-processed output (translation, summary, proofreading results)
- The date and time of the session
- The duration of the recording
You can browse, search, and copy from past sessions entirely within a workspace without affecting other workspaces.
Use Cases
Workspaces are most powerful when you have clearly distinct contexts for using DuRT. Here are some common setups:
Work / Professional
Create a Work workspace for meetings, calls, and presentations. Keep a separate Personal workspace for casual listening or entertainment.
Language Learning
Set up a dedicated Language Practice workspace. All your listening sessions in a foreign language stay together, making it easy to review vocabulary and progress over time.
Multiple Languages
If you regularly switch between languages (e.g., English podcasts and Japanese lectures), consider a workspace per language. This keeps transcription histories from different languages from mixing together.
Projects or Clients
Freelancers or students can create one workspace per project or subject, making it straightforward to review everything related to a specific topic.
TIP
There is no hard limit on the number of workspaces. Create as many as you need, and delete ones you no longer use to keep things tidy.
Deleting a Workspace
CAUTION
Deleting a workspace permanently removes all task history stored in it. This action cannot be undone.
To delete a workspace:
- Go to Settings → Workspace.
- Select the workspace you want to remove.
- Click the Delete (trash icon) button and confirm.
The Default workspace cannot be deleted.
